postop RK

Can over corrected astigmatism from RK be undone and enhance the -dioptes.
Currently at -2.00 dioptes, +2.00 astigmatism.  I had 2 enhancements and
was -12.00, +.75 astigmatism. Should I not of had a astigmatism correction
at all being only +.75 astigmatism? I now see streaks and its really bad at
night.

I think that you may find that the streaks that you get at night have
nothing to do with the over correction of the astigmatism!

The procedure of RK puts radial lesions into the stromal of the cornea.
These lesion cause scarring . Scarring is opaque and when light hits it it
is scattered. At night your pupils dilate increasing the likelihood of you
    seeing this scattered light.

Your answer to the overcorrected astigmatism, while true, is somewhat
harsh and lacking in sensitivity. Many people have RK–they are not
ignorant, maybe somewhat victims of aggressive advertising–but they do
not deserve the condition their eyes end up in. Most people trust MDs and
when this complication is not fully explained, worse, glossed over, it is
not the patients fault that they didn’t understand what light streaks
could mean. Some RK patients do not seem bothered at night while others
are incapacitated at night. They are victims of overly aggressive
procedures and advertising and the medical community should be much more
open in actually showing what lights look like post RK. And to the person
with +2.00 astigmatism–I feel badly for you–astigmatism is very
difficult to correct with any procedure. You may also have irregular
astigmatism, which will make light streaks at night even worse. Tallk to
your MD and see if they have an answer or suggestion for you. Hard
contacts will diminish your light streaks at night.

posts like this want to make me cry. after having
forked out megabucks for RK that some people have to use
hard lenses is a tragedy!! this should be a criminal offense.

Its 7 years post rk and now my vision is getting worse all the time. I’ve just
spent $500+ dollars to try to get a contact fitted for my right eye. The new
contact doesn’t seem to be working.

As it is now, I may be legally blind sometime in the future due to the rk not
being correctible with glasses or contacts.

Maybe ALK or something will be able to correct my vision when it comes to a
point where I cant live with it any longer.

I really do not want to experiment with my eyes any longer, but whats the choice?
