Glaucoma Question

Hi,

I’m performing a bit of research for an aunt who has glaucoma and
is having problems with foggy vision.  The fogginess she has occurs
upon waking up and lasts till mid afternoon, when it clears for the
rest of the day.  She is on optipranolol (bid).  I suspect that these
symptoms are a side effect of the medication, since she has varying
degrees of fogginess depending on the medication she uses.  Of those
she has tried optipranolol has the fewest side effects, so she is stuck
with this medication.

The fogginess is lessened if:   (1) she sleeps propped up; (2) has
5-6 hours of sleep instead of 8 hours; (3) exercises vigorously.

Has anyone had any similar experiences to share?  If so, is there
any way to minimize these side effects?

I’ve had glaucoma for about 15 years.  My personal experience with foggy
vision is that it is often a sign that the intraocular pressure has gone up
to a damaging level.  Pressure can vary over the course of day.  I use a
home tonometer to monitor my pressure so I’ve had the opportunity to confirm
this in myself.  My pressure is often higher in the morning (in fact lying
flat in a dark room for several hours used to be a test for glaucoma because
it could induce a rise in IO pressure in pre-glaucomataus people) and I have
also experienced a temporary drop in IO pressure after vigorous exercise
(maybe increased circulation improves flow or maybe stimulates some
autonomic effect?  Who knows?).  Anyway, your aunt may want to get her IO
pressure checked in the morning when the vision is foggy in case this is in
    fact the cause.
