Conference Announcement and Call for Papers

Conference Announcement and Call for Papers

                           3rd CAOS-SYMPOSIUM
                 Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery
                           November 6-8, 1997
                           Bern, Switzerland

For the third time  the  CAOS-Symposium  brings together  surgeons and techno-
logists  to provide  state of the art  and  future  innovations in the rapidly
evolving  field of  Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery.  Emerging  computer
based technologies  hold a great potential  for improving clinical outcome and
will soon influence the way we design,  plan,  simulate,  and execute surgical
approaches.
The objectives of  the symposium  are to present  the most current thinking on
the impact of computer assisted surgical techniques  on the daily clinical and
surgical routine,  to educate surgeons in the use of these techniques,  and to
promote a new partnership  between surgeons  and  technologists as a necessary
basis for the successful integration of computer assisted surgery systems.
The format  at the meeting  will  consist of invited lectures  presented by an
internationally  recognized  faculty  as well as  presentations  of  submitted
papers  reviewed by a distinguished  program committee.  Also featured will be
live computer assisted surgeries in different anatomical areas.  This year the
clinically oriented  hands on  workshop about  different  CAOS  techniques and
systems will be  extented  significantly,  a unique educational experience for
practicing orthopaedic surgeons.
The symposium’s format will provide ample opportunity for personal interaction
with faculty and other symposium participants.

In order to encourage research  in the field of  Computer Assisted Orthopaedic
Surgery,  a prize of  sfr. 3000  for the best paper  of  the symposium will be
given.  A board of referees  will  make  their  selection  from  all  extended
abstracts.  Papers must reach the CAOS-Secretary not later than July 15, 1997.
One of the authors  should  be  prepared  to  come  to Bern at the time of the
meeting to present the paper and to receive the award.
