could dogs color blindness be related with humans language development?

Vision of dogs and colourblind people have common characteristics, like:

greater ability to see in the dark (as a compensation – just like dogs)

lack of effectiveness of averted visionit

a person who is colour blind, and has few or defective cones, out of plain
need, uses thier rods in their eye more so than the average person. Since
rods are the low light detectors, by becomming more active, they allow
better low light seeing.

There is this theory that homo sapiens and dogs were together much earlier
than assumed and that they "worked" together because, among other reasons,
dogs could see at night. And this collaboration is also responsible for the
developing of language in humans.

I sense that this is a strange theory, but as I am designer working in a
concept where I could use the characteristics of colour blindness, I somehow
feel that this idea ( colors x language ) could help in the "understanding
an image"

Would someone be able to help me to think further about this?

Who is EyeSeeWell: Why all the tirades and anti-refractive surgery rhetoric?

It would be interesting to learn what, if any, is EyeSeeWell’s
personal experience with refractive surgery.  Why the use of
inflammatory subject lines that are not supported by the posted
message?  Why does EyeSeeWell feel compelled to post again and again
on these newsgroups?  What does EyeSeeWell expect to achieve by the
postings?

Most of the other anti-refractive surgery people who routinely post
here, such as Roger Bratt, and Brent Hanson, have clearly identified
their circumstances.  Sandy at LASIKdisaster.com not only has an
excellent website that describes her personal journey into hell (as
she describes it), but has the grace to refrain from many of the
misinformation tactics others have perpetrated.  These people have
greater credibility because they at least say who they are and why
they respond as they do.

Who are you, EyeSeeWell, and why do you respond as you do?

Night driving, bright lights, new PALs

I’m having a hard time driving with these new PAL glasses. I wore
lined-bifocs for many years and decided to try the progressives. They are
GREAT for day use, especially on the computer. I LOVE THEM. They are a week
old.

But driving is another story. Red and green lights are really brights and
have sort of a glow or a halo. Same with oncoming headlights. I wouldn’t say
it "hurts" my eyes, but lights at night seem to make me uncomfortable. Is
this part of the normal adjustment thing, or could the script be wrong (or
the lenses?)

Thanks,

Al

Permanent label residue on Varilux lenses

I have a pair of Varilux progressive lenses that I obtained several
months ago as warranty replacements for lenses that had gotten minor
scratches. When I picked them up, the optician removed transparent
labels on each lens and cleaned the lenses. I noticed that there were
slight doughnut-shaped rings where the labels had been, but figured they
would go away with cleaning; I hadn’t had any problem with the previous
lenses.

Well, the residue rings haven’t gone away. Now that it is winter, I
notice them especially during sudden temperature or humidity changes.
The rings diffract light and can be very distracting under certain
lighting conditions.

I recently took them in to my eyecare office to ask about this; the
optician didn’t seem to have heard the complaint before and just
suggested cleaning them with alcohol swatches. I did, with no effect.
Then I tried soaking the lenses in isopropyl alcohol, which also did nothing.
At this point I figured that if the residue was from an organic glue,
bleach might help, so I tried soaking the lenses for about 15 minutes
in a 50% chlorine bleach solution; this may have helped a bit, but
the rings are still visible. (When I took the glasses out of the bleach
solution, there was a kind of soupy film on them, which washed away with
soap and water, suggesting that perhaps some of the stuff had
dissolved.)

It seems as if the label residue is not on the surface of the lenses,
but has bonded to the lens coating or material itself. (The lenses came
with anti-scratch treatment.) Has anyone run into this sort of thing? Is
there a treatment that might remove the residue without harming the
lenses?

Eye pain, possibly pinguecula??

Hi,

I’ve been having eye pain now for almost two months including intense
burning, irritation on eye movement, foreign body sensation, and at
times soreness.  I saw an opthamlogist and he said its being caused by
an inflammed pinguecula…  I’m concerned though because of the length
of time of the symptoms.  I’ve taken steriod drops for about 2
weeks(tobradex), and there has been no improvement.  I put drops in my
eyes constantly through the day to help with the pain,  and use
Genteal Gel at night.  And one of the worst symptoms and hardest to
understand, is that at certain times my eye will hurt when I look in
the direction away from my nose.  It will cause a very noticable
pulling/burning sensation in my eye and I’m at a loss to explain what
could be causing it.  I dont know if a pinguecula could cause this
symptom, but usually the eye feels better when eye drops are added.  I
thought at first it was something in my eye, but the doc said he didnt
see anything… I guess what I want to know is can an all this really
be caused by a Pinguecula??  If the steroids and drops arent helping,
what should I try next?  At this point, I’m starting to wonder if
something else is causing these symptoms.
I’d greatly appreciate any information/opinions regarding this.
Thanks!

I just don't get some eye glass places. Read this.

Geesh. I went to an eye glass place just to check out some frames and see if
they could order certain lenses for me when the time came. Just looking.
Anyway, the lady was interested in the type of frame I was wearing, and wanted
to read the numbers on my frames. No problem. I take my glasses off and hand it
to her. DAMNIT. She holds my glasses by the lenses, turning the frame around
looking for the #. After finding the #, She hands my glasses back to me. Finger
prints like crazy all over the lenses. This alone has discouraged me from going
to their place for my lenses. What the hell. It’s common sense not to handle
glasses by the lenses. And then at worse, hand them back like everything is OK.
Anyway, I had to rant. I could only imagine the nice circular ring I would get
from their chuck if I went their to get my lenses cut. geeesh.

Bifocals Question

I wear bifocals with the reading segment of 1.75. Is the reading segment
(1.75) of the glasses affected by the far-vision part of the (upper)
lens which is -1.00 + 1.25 x145 ? Or is the 1.75 reading segment
independent of the upper portion of the lens?

Just trying to optimize my reading vision and have been experimenting
with "reading glasses". I am baffled because 1.75 reading glasses afford
slightly different acuity than the 1.75 segment of my bifocals.

Floaters

Hello group

I have a question. I have floaters and they are getting progressively
worse and blurring my vision. I went last year to have my eyes checked
and the doctor said he could see them, What I have noticed is at times
they are magnified and also as if the are a few feet away from my  body.
I know this sounds odd but this is whats happening and it’s  annoying as
hell.Is there any thing that can be done to get rid of these floaters?
they seem worse when I am really tired. Also what causes them and is it
possible they are caused by hypertension?

Would appreciate any  info

TIA

Tracy
