Could You Help My Baby, Tasnim ?

                        Brain Stem
Could You Help My Baby, Tasnim ?
My Baby Tasnim is Two years old. Since six months she is terribly sick. Symptonms started suddenly by convulsions in the neck and ended now by inability to
move. Docotors Diagnostics was " Atumour in the brain stem". We have done
15 sets of Irradiation and 9 sets of raditherapy followed by Physiotherapy.
There is a slight improvements in the case.

Recently, I read about a new trend of treatment using a type of injection which
liquify the tumour or break it into a small pieces then those pieces are further aspirated by a tube.

My question is : Is ther any information about this type of treatment ?.
The type of injections and how frequent is it ?. Also where could  I get this
treatment and who is the Doctor that can start this type of treatment ?.
Upon reading this mail, Please remember that my only daughter is now in
her bed waiting for your reply and for a miracle from OUR GOD.

Thank you for your help.

Halos & Glare

It is my understanding that the halos and glare experienced by many LASIK
(and PRK) patients is due to light entering the eye at (and beyond) the
edge of the ablated zone when the pupil is dialated beyond 6mm.  (Assuming
a 6mm ablation zone.)  This makes sense to me.  However, I recently
learned that my soft toric contact lenses have an optical zone of only
about 7mm.  My pupils happen to dialate well beyond 6mm, even in low
light, yet I get no halo or glare from my contacts.  This night vision
impairment is one of the primary reasons I am currently staying away from
refractive surgery.  So…two questions:

1). Why would I not get this effect from my CLs?
2). Is there any reason to think that the effect would be less with LASIK
than with PRK?  (If so, I’d love to hear why.)

Thanks for your responses.

Retinal research

For those interested,  an article in Science News Vol 151 (April 12, 1997)
concerns research being done in Germany using solar cells as a substitute
for retinal receptors. They are developing an eye implant, based on a solar
cell, for people who have lost their sight because of a disease of the
retina. This research, if fruitful, will particularly benefit those with
Retinitis Pigmentosa.

Conference Announcement and Call for Papers

Conference Announcement and Call for Papers

                           3rd CAOS-SYMPOSIUM
                 Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery
                           November 6-8, 1997
                           Bern, Switzerland

For the third time  the  CAOS-Symposium  brings together  surgeons and techno-
logists  to provide  state of the art  and  future  innovations in the rapidly
evolving  field of  Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery.  Emerging  computer
based technologies  hold a great potential  for improving clinical outcome and
will soon influence the way we design,  plan,  simulate,  and execute surgical
approaches.
The objectives of  the symposium  are to present  the most current thinking on
the impact of computer assisted surgical techniques  on the daily clinical and
surgical routine,  to educate surgeons in the use of these techniques,  and to
promote a new partnership  between surgeons  and  technologists as a necessary
basis for the successful integration of computer assisted surgery systems.
The format  at the meeting  will  consist of invited lectures  presented by an
internationally  recognized  faculty  as well as  presentations  of  submitted
papers  reviewed by a distinguished  program committee.  Also featured will be
live computer assisted surgeries in different anatomical areas.  This year the
clinically oriented  hands on  workshop about  different  CAOS  techniques and
systems will be  extented  significantly,  a unique educational experience for
practicing orthopaedic surgeons.
The symposium’s format will provide ample opportunity for personal interaction
with faculty and other symposium participants.

                   #################################
                   #  T H E   C A O S   A W A R D  #
                   #################################
In order to encourage research  in the field of  Computer Assisted Orthopaedic
Surgery,  a prize of  sfr. 3000  for the best paper  of  the symposium will be
given.  A board of referees  will  make  their  selection  from  all  extended
abstracts.  Papers must reach the CAOS-Secretary not later than July 15, 1997.
One of the authors  should  be  prepared  to  come  to Bern at the time of the
meeting to present the paper and to receive the award.

Rings

I have been experiencing "rings" in my vision at various times and at
various intervals from once a week up to 3 or 4 times a week. They
just seem to appear with no warning and last from a few minutes up to
an hour. The "rings" can best be described as holes in glass (jagged
edges) and are very bright. They are very annoying and make it very
difficult to see. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please post
or email reply to crmar…@netsync.net
