The pathological history of my retinas began just after a periodical
control last year. I am a 39 years old male, short-sighted from 15 (last
year it was -5.50 Left, and -6.00 Right).
I have no remarkable pathology, such like diabetes, hypertension, etc..
In March 1996 the oculist found a big peripheral retinal degeneracy in
both my retinae and suggested me a laser photocoagulation treatment. At
that time it seemed that no urgency was due.
But the day after I saw a shadow in the upper right side of my left eye
sight spot: retinal detachment. It has been necessary a surgical
procedure and things got better. Of course I hurried to make my right
eye treated by argon laser to prevent the same problem. After six months
the right eye showed again the same peripheral degeneracy and moreover a
retinal hole (N.B.: I know it is strange, but I saw no flashing lights).
So another laser treatment was needed.
Now my questions are: is the laser coagulation really effective in my
case, or sooner or later the surgical procedure will be the only
solution for the right eye too?
Has someone experience on such a phenomenon of fast retinal denegeracy?

I would like to know from anyone that has experience with the Barraquer –
Krumeich Microkeratome: how it compares with other devices, clinically,
user friendlyness, mechanically, costs, complications, etc.
Are there any users in the U.S.?

My friend says that she can’t see well at night and isn’t able to see
people in dim light.  Someone recommended surgery for her eyes.  What
could cause this?

If the retina was torn or pulled slightly; and flashes of light are
seen for a few minutes, would eyesight be normal after that incident?

With a cheap monitor; the refresh rate is slow.  There is a noticeable
flicker.  Can this cause physical damage to the eyes?  Are those
computer glasses worth the money?

to help people with green-red color blindness. Does anyone know the URL

Would anyone care to speculate on how one is to distinguish between
the two? I am assuming that if a floater appears to be pulled down
by gravity, it must exist before the lens, whereas if it is a vitreous
floater, it would appear to drift upwards since gravity would pull it
down across the retina.

     If you could be more specific about the type of research, it would

     helpful.  For example, is this a controlled clinical trial?  If so,
you
     will need consent forms, FDA approval, IRB (hospital "Institutional
Review
     Board" approval etc.  A good start if indeed you are doing clinical
trials
     are the books written by Burt(?)
