Possible contact lens complications?

I recently got contacts and upon picking them up, my doctor told me
that we would be doing some routine checks just to make sure things
are all in order.  I asked what could go wrong and he said complications
sometimes like blood vessels.  He assured me though that i’d be fine.

What does he mean by this?

One fellow on this group at one point said that contacts can cause
blood vessels to grow on the retina?  Is this accurate ?  Ehat
effect  do contacts have onthe retina?

Thank You

Physician Professional Learning Survey (#1)

Greetings:

I am working on a project that focuses on the Professional Learning
(PL) activities of physicians.  These include formal CME activities as
well as informal learning activities.  Each week for the next six
weeks, I will post a PL-related question for physicians to answer.  If
you are a physician, please feel free to post your response to this
group or directly to my e-mail address.  In order for me to validate
your response, please provide your full name and the city/state in
which you practice. A topline summary of the responses will be posted
to this group in late-November.  A more detailed summary will be sent
to physicians who have answered three or more of the questions.   This
survey has been posted to multiple newgroups and discussion lists.  My
apologies if you receive duplicated messages.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

This week’s question (#1) is:

What factors within the healthcare industry or medicine do you think
will affect your need for Professional Learning over the next 1-2
years?  What factors will affect the way you personally access PL
activities or content?   Some categories of these factors might
include:  Economic, regulatory, legal, ethical, clinical,
technological, etc.  Please feel free to make additional comments.

Thanks for your response.

If you would like me to send you subsequent questions (total of six)
directly to your e-mail address, please indicate here:

If you would me to send you a list of all previous questions in this
series to answer, please indicate here:

If you would like me to e-mail you a summary of all of the responses to
all six questions in late-November, please indicate here:

Re: Darwin vs Glaucoma

Rather than bad engineering of the eye, let me refer to bad engineering of
the respiratory and ailimentary systems.  Who in their right mind, would
design a pipeline system where gaseous and semi-liquid have to cross but
not mix?  Our designer worked around this one with a complicated valving
system that doesn’t always work properly.  Sometimes failure of this
separation device lead to catastrophic failure of the entire organism.

Come to think of it, I have seen some designs by engineers that are at
least that silly.

contactlens keeps tearing

Could anyone please help me with the following:

For two weeks now i’m testing softlenses from the company *optilens* in
Amsterdam NL, who’ve been very helpfull.

The problem is that in those two weaks i’ve torn three of my
contactlenses. What am i doing wrong?

It’s my first time wearing contacts, so it could be possible i’m making
some dumb mistake taking them out/putting them in… (Maybe my fingers
are to thick?)

Please reply by e-mail. I dont frequent this newsgroup.

Thank you

glare in office environment

Is there a FAC that discusses how to set up your computer relative to light
sources?

I think I have a problem, because I’m always squinting and I get headaches,
but I don’t know how the light is supposed to be. My monitor doesn’t seem
to be putting out a lot of glare, so I figure the problem must be the room
lighting.

Any suggestions or pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Eyestrain and computer monitor refresh rates

I would like to convince my employer of my need for a better computer
monitor, in order to increase the refresh rate (esp. interlaced to
non-interlaced) and resolution (CRT dot pitch) and thereby reduce
eyestrain and headaches.

Are there any medical reports which I can use to establish this link
and justify to my employer the need for a new monitor?
