Left Eye Orbital Pseudo Tumor

A close friend of mine has Orbital Pseudo Tumor in his left eye.
Due to some irritation or virus the tissues in the eye socket flar up
and swell.
The prime treatment has been daily intake of 50 grams of Prednisone.
Howerer as he reduced
th medication,he is prone to "rebounds" which causes sorenessans
swelling.
He is under the care of a term of optomologist and has 3 MRI’s , 2 CAT
Scans which show no tumor, mass or cancer.
The doctors cannot find the root cause of his eye problem.
My friend is very upset that he cannot get off Prednisone and its side
effect. In the long term the cure may be worse than the problem.

My friend has asked/inquired about alternative treatments,so far has no
luck.
Maybe someone out there in the internet web can help?
Maybe someone can direct me to post this massege at the right newsgroups
?

Thanks

Bilateral Monoc Diplopia

Greetings colleagues.

Do any of you have any suggestions on this puzzling patient, examined this week
by one of my partners:

Female. Age 40. Good health. No medications.
Ophthalmoscopy NAD.  No sign external eye disorders.

Subjective Rx: R +0.50 / -0.25 X 40 = 6/6-   L +0.75 / -1.00 X 115 = 6/9 pt

Strab Ops for  exotropia  LE aged 8.  RE aged 9.   LE aged 19.  Now has mild
restriction of abduction of right eye.

In primary position 2 pd B In fixation disparity R/L, although R tends to fade.

Patient complains of horizontal diplopia in each eye, even when other eye
occluded.                                ^^^^^^^^^^^^
This has been noticed over the past few months.

No significant improvement with either pinhole or stenopaic slit.

No other symptoms.

Sorry about the relative lack of information – my partner didn’t do equilibrium
tests or central fields as the patient was "fitted in"

Please e-mail me directly if you have any suggestions.

Thanks .

PRK/LASIK in Europe

I’ve been reading this newsgroup for about 2 months and am very
interested in the refractive surgery offered around.
So far I only see that "overseas" people discuss here and nearly none
from Europe. Has anybody from Europe had any experience with PRK/LASIK
in the high myopia above -6, (mine are -9,- 0,75(astigmatism) and
-8,50?
Regarding LASIK, which seems to be the best solution for high myopia,
there seem to be an ongoing discussion about the pro’s and con’s
regarding the trip to Columbia.(For me it looks promising, but
Columbia is far away from me, so I want more info on that).

Which surgeries around the world do perform LASIK today and what are
your experiences with those?

Btw I am from Norway and have discussed an PRK with my doctor who
adviced me to wait a year or so until a new laser get to the market
which is better suited for my myopia. I don’t know which laser, maybe
he meens the LASIK procedure?

Thanks…

glaucoma and extreme altitudes

I am an astronomer with glaucoma.  My IOP is currently well-controlled
with medication and a trabeculectomy in my "good" eye.  I also have
cornea grafts in both eyes.  I have been invited to interview for a
job which would require me to travel to the summit of Mauna Kea
(14,000 ft above sea level) every couple of months.  Will working at
such a high altitude for several hours at a time pose any significant
threat to my eyes?

If you are planning a trip to Israel, I would like to invite you to lecture
to our Ophthalmology staff. We are looking for Ophthalmologists to assist us
in our growth by sharing their medical experiences with our staff of
international Ophthalmologists when you visit Israel.

Our 250 bed hospital is located in Ashkelon, Israel in the Northwest Negev.
Our facilities are expanding. We serve a geographic area of approximately
300,000 people, including new Russian immigrants to Israel.

If a visit to Israel is not in your future plans, we would welcome any
donations of new or used Ophthalmology equipment. Our resources are limited
so any monetary contributions you could provide would be used to improve our
department too.

Thank you for your interest.

Help for very nearsighted

I am wearing contact lenses in the 12-13 diopters range and asked my
doctor about RK.  His opinion was you can correct about 6 diopters with
RK but not more.  Since then I have heard different opinions, and also
about a new procedure that may be used in combination with RK to correct
even my kind of nearsightedness.

I am looking for expert-opinions and referals to doctors who perform these
kinds of operations in the Bay Area.

Thanx for your help — it would be a DREAM to wake up in the morning
and SEE!
